"The competition of zero-emission cars started," said Nissan Motor CEO Carlos Ghosn at Tokyo Motor Show 2009, announcing that the company is planning to launch three electric vehicles (EVs).
In addition to the Leaf, which is scheduled to be released in fiscal 2010, Nissan intends to launch a small business-use EV and an Infiniti brand EV. Furthermore, it is considering developing a two-seat EV that looks like the "Land Glider" concept car exhibited at the show.
The small business-use EV is based on the new NV200 van. It is expected to be used as a van, cab, ambulance and other transportation vehicles, the company said. The Infiniti brand EV is a small four-seater whose appearance will be disclosed in the near future.
Nissan has not yet announced the specifications of the two vehicles but said that it plans to utilize the battery/inverter/motor system developed for the Leaf in many kinds of vehicles.
