Suntech Power Japan Corp, a subsidiary of Suntech Power Holdings Co Ltd of China, announced the number of shops that are run by Yamada Denki Co Ltd and sell Suntech Power Japan's solar cells will increase from the current about 50 to about 450.

Yamada Denki Co Ltd is a firm that runs appliance stores in Japan. Suntech Power Japan Corp set a goal to increase its share of the Japanese solar cell market to 10% within 2009.

"With the increase in the number of the shops, we can get closer to our goal," Suntech Power Japan said.

The company has been supplying its solar cells to about 50 of Yamada Denki's appliance stores, where House Care Co Ltd, a subsidiary of West Holdings Corp, sells them.

This time, as Yamada Denki Solar Energy, a joint venture of West Holdings and Yamada Denki, started services to make estimates of and install solar-powered equipment at about 400 of Yamada Denki's shops, Suntech Power Japan began to supply its solar cells to those shops.

The solar cell module of Suntech Power Japan uses single-crystal Si cells. The conversion efficiency and output of the module are 14.1% and 180W, respectively. Its price is "equivalent to the prices of solar cells being sold by other Japanese firms," Suntech Power Japan said. But the company differentiated its product from others' by proving 25 years of power output guarantee.
