Universal Display Corp (UDC) of the US and LG Display Co Ltd of Korea jointly developed a bracelet-type organic EL display and exhibited it at SID Display Week 2009.
The companies expect the display to be wrapped around the wrist like a watch.
The 4-inch (81.6 x 61.0mm) display, featuring QVGA (320 x RGB x 240 pixels) and a resolution of 100ppi, is capable of showing 1.67 million colors.
UDC and LG Display used a phosphorescent material developed by UDC for the organic EL display. It has a luminance of 100cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 when emitting white light. It operates at 15V and consumes about 1W of electricity, according to the companies.
With a steel plate as thin as 76μm used for the substrate, the panel is 0.3mm thick. It can be bent to a curvature radius of two inches and weighs 8g. The organic EL display is driven by amorphous Si TFT.
