Macnica Inc, a Japanese firm developing and marketing semiconductors and network devices, and Fujitsu Software Technologies Ltd jointly developed the "Software Platform for Home Network Digital Photo Frame," a digital photo frame that employed Google Inc's "Android" as its platform.

Macnica will exhibit this digital photo frame for reference at the 12th Embedded Systems Expo (ESEC2009), which runs from May 13, 2009, at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. It will be exhibited as an example of digital home appliances that incorporate Android as their embedded platform.

The developed digital photo frame can display a slideshow of photos on a home network via DLNA. Using Fujitsu Ltd's middleware, "Inspirium HomeNetwork Library for AV," Macnica and Fujitsu Software realized a capability to share photos on a home network via DLNA.

Macnica's "Marbo PictImpact" is included as middleware for slideshows of still pictures. It can process photos with oil paint and colored pencil effects, etc. The application processor of the digital photo frame is Marvell Technology Group Ltd's "PXA 310."

According to Macnica, in recent years, there is an increasing demand to develop high value-added embedded devices at a lower cost and in a short period of time. And Android is drawing attention as a multipurpose embedded platform that fulfills such a demand, the company said.
