Mitac Japan Corp will release the "Mio C523 V2," a portable navigation device (PND) designed so that it can be easily used by a motorcycle rider, April 15, 2009.
The company added the "rider mode," a function that indicates directions to follow at multiple intersections on a single screen using arrows.
"The time spent looking at the display will be shorter because users can check only the directions to follow even while riding a motorcycle," Mitac Japan said.
The company designed the "Mio C523," the previous model, only for use in cars.
The suggested retail price of the Mio C523 V2 is ¥44,800 (approx US$448). It supports 1seg digital TV reception. The 1seg tuner module is a product of Hitachi Ltd.
The capacity of its built-in flash memory is 2 Gbytes. It uses Increment P Corp's map data. The 4.3-inch touch panel LCD is manufactured by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. And it employed Windows CE operating system, Samsung Electronics' "2440" application processor and SiRF Technology Holdings Inc's GPS module. Mitac Japan will manufacture the PND at its plant in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China.
