The Tokyo District Court sided with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in its LCD panel patent infringement complaint against Sharp Corp March 6, 2009.
Samsung filed this lawsuit in June 2008, claiming that Sharp infringed on Samsung's patents. The Tokyo District Court found Sharp's LCD TV module to have infringed on Samsung's Japanese patent 3,625,598 on "a LCD module manufacturing technology" and ordered Sharp to halt its production, marketing, import and export of its "LC-32D10" LCD TV, which uses the module in question, as well as to dispose of the inventory of the TV.
Among other patent disputes between Sharp and Samsung, the Tokyo District Court supported Sharp's complaint Jan 30, 2009, that Samsung infringed on Sharp's patents (See related article). In the US, on the other hand, the International Trade Commission (ITC) recognized Sharp's patent infringement through its investigation based on Samsung's complaint, while Sharp, too, asked ITC to investigate Samsung's patent infringement on its patents.
In addition to these cases, the two companies are in LCD panel-related patent disputes in Korea, Germany and the Netherlands.
