The ITS Promotion Council will hold an open demonstration of ITS-Safety 2010 from Feb 25 to 28, 2009, in respect to test drives, exhibitions and symposiums for the public.

The ITS Promotion Council was established by government organizations and private sectors. And ITS-Safety 2010 is a project for large-scale verification tests that have been conducted since Jan 12, 2009, in Tokyo's Odaiba district. The open demonstration for the press was held Feb 24, 2009.

The verification tests have been conducted by combining the "DSSS" system of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the "ASV" system of the Road Transport Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and the "Smartway" system of the Road Bureau of the same ministry.

About 30 vehicles are used in the tests. The project is participated not only by Japanese automakers but also by overseas companies including Volkswagen AG, Audi AG and Daimler AG of Germany. In addition to optical beacons and 5.8GHz band DSRC, 720MHz band wireless communication is used.

The test drives offer two courses, a 50-minute course and a 140-minute course. In the 50-minute course, drivers can experience 10 kinds of safety support systems. In the 140-minute course, they can experience eight "Smartway" safety support systems, which have been implemented on the Tokyo Metropolitan Express Ways by MLIT, and one of the rear-end collision prevention systems, which have been implemented as part of the ASV project, in addition to the 10 kinds offered in the 50-minute course.

The following systems can be experienced in the 50-minute course.
