Indian solar cell manufacturers gathered at the 18th International Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference & Exhibition, which took place from Jan 19 to 23, 2009, in Kolkata, India. Though all of the manufacturers are planning to enhance production capacity, many of them postponed it in the wake of the financial crisis.

Titan Energy Systems Ltd, a Hyderabad-based solar module maker, plans to increase its annual production capacity from current 100MW to 500MW by the end of 2009 and, at the same time, start production of photovoltaic cells. However, the timing may be delayed by about six months because of the financial crisis, according to the company.

Jupiter Solar Power Ltd, a solar cell manufacturer established in 2007, was originally planning to start manufacturing photovoltaic cells in November 2008. However, it was postponed until February 2009 as the market shrank due to the financial crisis. In addition, the company delayed the production increase, which was scheduled for 2010, until 2011.
