Nikkei Electronics Teardown Squad obtained the "Nintendo DSi," the latest version of Nintendo Co Ltd's portable game console Nintendo DS.

To probe the difference between the DSi, which was released Nov 1, 2008, in Japan, and the DS Lite, its predecessor, we started to disassemble the DSi with the help of an engineer from a Japanese electronic parts manufacturer.

The screws used on the chassis of the DSi are different from the Y-shaped screws seen on the first-generation Nintendo DS and can be taken out with a normal cross slot screwdriver. The screws are located under a plastic cover, which we had quite a struggle to remove.
