Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and LG Display Co Ltd are competitively displaying panels developed with leading-edge technologies at International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) 2008, which began Oct 14, 2008, in Goyang City, Korea.
Samsung Electronics exhibited a 15-inch Blue Phase mode LCD panel, a 14.3-inch color electronic paper and a 4.3-inch plastic LCD driven by amorphous Si TFT in the Future Display zone of its booth. It also showed off a 7.9mm-thick 40-inch LCD TV and a 9.8mm-thick 52-inch TV.
Though Samsung Electronics showcased a Blue Phase mode LCD panel at SID (Society for Information Display) 2008 (See related article 1, 2), the company improved its manufacturing process and image quality this time. Concerning the 14.3-inch color electronic paper, CNT (carbon nanotube) is used for its transparent electrode. Both the 40-inch and 52-inch TVs were exhibited for the first time.
As for OLED panels, Samsung Electronics displayed a 14-inch HD panel, a 31-inch full-HD panel and a 5-inch Wide VGA panel. And LG Display showcased a 19-inch OLED panel driven by amorphous Si TFT.
