Alps Electric Co Ltd developed a TV remote controller with few buttons and will exhibit it at CEATEC JAPAN 2008.

"We would like to suggest a new style of remote control through this exhibition," the company said. Sample shipments will start in October 2008, and the price of the sample is ¥5,000 (approx US$48).

This remote commander employs some of the latest remote control technologies. First, it is an "RF Remote Control" that communicates with a TV via 2.4GHz radio instead of infrared ray.

Second, it is mounted with an acceleration sensor, allowing users to scroll and switch the program listing on the TV screen by waving the remote controller. Third, users can select a function or a program by stroking or lightly tapping the screen of the remote controller with a capacitive touch pad.

The aforementioned three features eliminated the need for most of the buttons that existing remote controllers have. Some of them had more than 60 buttons.
