Japan Handset Shipments Down 30% in July

Shipments of mobile phones in Japan declined 28.9% year-on-year (YoY) to 3.634 million units in July 2008, according to the statistics released by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA).

This figure is much smaller than the previous year's, which was the third highest in history.

Domestic shipments of models with a built-in 1seg tuner continued to grow, soaring 54.7% YoY to 2.891 million units. They accounted for 79.5% of overall mobile phone shipments in July, marking a record high.
