Dell Inc is planning to release an "immersive monitor," said Bill Curtis, the company's director of Digital Home Architecture, in his technology session at NVISION 08, an image processing-related event hosted by NVIDIA Corp.

During the session, Curtis showed an image of the monitor that looks like surrounding the viewer.

"With the lights turned off, it can generate surprisingly attractive effects because it's like graphics are surrounding the viewer in a dark room," he said.

Dell has spent a significant amount of time on developing this monitor, Curtis said. Although he said that the monitor will be launched "before long," he refrained from mentioning the details of the technologies used in it.
