Nine NTT DoCoMo Group companies (DoCoMo) unveiled new 906i and 706i series mobile phones May 27, 2008. The 906i has eight new models, while the 706i Series has 11.
In addition to the high functionality inherited from the existing "905i" model, the 906i Series features an enhanced video function. The 706i Series includes unique handsets such as an ultrathin 1seg model, a wellness model and a waterproof 1seg model, as well as a model that is simple to use.
DoCoMo decided not to adopt the HSDPA standard, which allows high speed downlink communication at up to 7.2Mbps, for the new models.
The F906i, N906i, P906i, SH906i and SO906i retain the basic shape of the 905i. The P906i, the successor to the hugely popular "P905i," features a thin profile realized through the use of a diversity antenna for 1seg reception. It is equipped with the "Mobile W Speed" function, which was one of the main features of the P905iTV. This function converts the frame rate of 1seg images from 15 to 30fps.
The other models in the 906i Series are the SH906i, which features a touch panel, the N906iμ, which has the thinnest profile (12.6mm) in the 906i Series, the N906iL onefone, which has wireless LAN capability and the "AQUOS Keitai SH906iTV," which features a cycloid mechanism.
The 706ie, which is simple to operate, was added to the 706i Series. The 706ie comes in four models, namely, the "L706ie," "N706ie," "P706ie" and "SH706ie." Each of the models features large keys to prevent the user from pushing the wrong keys as well as easily readable displays.
The F706i is DoCoMo's first waterproof 1seg handset. As waterproof 1seg models have been available from other mobile carriers, DoCoMo received many requests from the users for this type of mobile phone. The P706iμ has an ultrathin profile of only 9.8mm while incorporating the 1seg function.
The SH706iw is a model specializing in wellness, which is equipped with a pedometer, a pulse sensor, etc. It is slated for sale September 2008. A body composition monitor that can transmit data to the SH706iw via infrared communication is scheduled to be released from Omron Healthcare Co Ltd, concurrently with the mobile phone.
The other models in the 706i Series are the N706i, NM706i, SH706i and SO706i.
