New External HDD Enables to Download YouTube Video With 1 Click

Planex Communications Inc will launch the "PL-35STU-500" external HDD in late May 2008. The PL-35STU-500 is bundled with software dubbed "Dohga Bannou (Video Versatility)," which enables downloading of video posted on the video-sharing Website "YouTube" with just a single click.

The HDD has a recording capacity of 500 Gbytes and supports the USB2.0 interface. It is priced at ¥19,800 (US$191, price may vary depending on country).

The software makes the PL-35STU-500 to store video clips posted on YouTube and facilitates downloading of video to Apple Inc's portable music players "iPod" and "iPod touch." When connected to a DLNA-compatible media server and a TV, the stored video can be viewed on a TV screen.

The PL-35STU-500 is equipped with a 3.5-inch hard disk. The data transmission rate is 480Mbps for USB2.0 and 12Mbps for USB1.1. The operating temperature ranges from 0 to +40°C. The HDD supports Microsoft Corp's operating software "Windows Vista," "Windows XP," "Windows 2000" and Windows Me" as well as Apple's "Mac Os X" versions 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5.

The Dohga Bannou software only runs on Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000. The HDD uses an AC adapter for the power source.

The PL-35STU-500 measures 218 (W) x 121 (D) x 40mm (H) and weighs about 490g including the stand.
