Konica Minolta Group achieved "Level 2 zero emissions" goal at all of its 15 production bases in Japan.

The group has "Level 1" and "Level 2" zero emissions criteria. In its Level 1 zero emissions criteria, goals are set to (1) boost resource recovery rate to more than 90%, (2) reduce final disposal rate including residue after resource recovery to less than 5% and (3) cut external payments more than 90% or make it less than profits from recycling efforts. In its Level 2, a goal to (4) slash externally discarded waste volume per sales more than 30% is added to the three goals above.

The group completed its zero emissions efforts at all production bases in Japan with Konica Minolta Technoproducts Co Ltd that manufactures and sells medical processing equipment and Konica Minolta Components Co Ltd that produces optical components achieving Level 2 in March 2008. The former company reused packaging materials and standardized the shape of packaging boxes with its affiliates, while the latter recycled plastic chips in addition to the standardization of boxes.

As for its seven bases in overseas, three bases reached Level 1 by the end of fiscal 2007 and the remaining four bases are targeting to accomplish Level 1 in fiscal 2008, Konica Minolta said. The group plans to further target Level 2 at all the seven overseas bases in fiscal 2009.

Upholding "global reduction in emissions from production bases" in its medium-term management plan "FORWARD 08," Konica Minolta is targeting a total reduction of 20% compared with fiscal 2000 through efforts including zero emissions activities. The benchmark emissions in fiscal 2000 were 31,400t, whereas the target set for fiscal 2010 is 25,000t.
