Niwango Inc announced that it signed a licensing agreement with Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) on April 1, 2008.
The agreement relates to the use of musical works on Niwango's video sharing Website "Nico Nico Douga (Smiley Videos)" and the video posting service "SMILEVIDEO" for the Website. Based on this agreement, Niwango users are allowed to post, at SMILEVIDEO, videos of general users playing or singing musical works for which copyrights are managed by JASRAC and share them with other users on the Nico Nico Douga Website.
JASRAC announced "Licensing Conditions for Video Posting (Sharing) Services" in July 2007, and Niwango reportedly agreed to them.
Thus far, JASRAC has signed agreements with Yahoo and Sony Corp, respectively, regarding the use of musical works managed by JASRAC on "Yahoo! Videocast" and "eyeVio." Niwango is the third company to sign with JASRAC on the use of musical works on video sharing sites.
