Toyota Motor Corp adopted a TFT LCD panel for the entire meter panel in the driver seat of "Crown Hybrid," which was announced Feb 18, 2008.

The meters and the LCD panel were developed by Denso Corp and Sharp Corp, respectively. The meter panel is 12.3-inch large and has a resolution of 1280 × 480 pixels.

The LCD panel is as large as two 640 × 480 pixel VGA panels juxtaposed to each other. Sharp cuts out the panel for the use of Crown Hybrid. Its operating temperature ranges from -30 to +85°C.

Traffic lane information can be displayed on the LCD panel when a car navigation system is used. Also, for the model with a night-vision system, it is possible to display the vision in the center of the panel.

In addition, users can change the colors of the meters. The frames of the speed meter and tachometer are red in the "sports mode" and green in the "eco mode."

Toyota uses a TFT LCD panel in the center of LEXUS LS's meter panel. But, this time, the company adopted a TFT LCD panel for the entire panel for the first time.

White LEDs are used for the backlight as in the case of LEXUS LS. Though Toyoda did not reveal the number of the LEDs or their manufacturer, it said the heat sink is quite large like the one used in LEXUS LS.
