Samsung Techwin Co Ltd of Korea, which has rapidly grown in the digital camera market over the last two to three years, has met its expected goal.

According to a research conducted by Techno Systems Research Co Ltd (TSR), Samsung Techwin won the third largest share in the global production of digital cameras by vendor on a unit basis. Samsung Techwin had targeted ranking as one of the top three manufacturers in the digital camera industry by 2010 in its official statements, but had targeted 2007 or 2008 in private.

The company produced 12 million units in 2007, only 200,000 units more than the output from Olympus Corp, which was ranked fourth. The small gap is, however, highly likely to broaden in 2008. TSR forecast Samsung Techwin and Olympus will produce 15 million and 13 million units, respectively, in 2008.
