Victor Company of Japan will launch the GZ-HD6 HDD camcorder in mid-February 2008 as a new model for the Everio series.

The product is capable of 1080p HDTV video output. There is no manufacturer's suggested retail price.

The GZ-HD6 performs the progressive processing for both input and output signals and allows the output of 1080p HDTV video at 60fps. As a result, the pixilation that appears obliquely behind objects in the video has reportedly been reduced. The signal processing circuit in the playback output system is equipped with the company's proprietary image processing LSI "GENESSA."

The product has a 120-Gbyte HDD. It supports the MPEG-2 video compression standard and the xvYCC color space. It can record up to about 10 hours of video in the "FHD" mode with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and up to approximately 24 hours in the "LP" mode with a 1440 x 1080 resolution. The HDD can record up to 9,999 still images in either mode.

In addition to the HDD, microSD memory cards can also be used to store images. According to the company, the GZ-HD6 is approximately 40% smaller than the company's existing model.

It has a 570,000-pixel 1/5-inch CCD image sensor. It supports the interfaces such as HDMI, miniUSB and iLink.

The chassis measures 79 (W) x 73 (H) x 130mm (D) (including the biggest protrusion). It weighs about 585g including the rechargeable battery used for recording.

Along with the GZ-HD6, the company will add the GZ-HD5, which also supports the 1920 × 1080p HDTV resolution, to the Everio series. The GZ-HD5 has a 60-Gbyte built-in HDD. The chassis is about 45% smaller than the existing model. It is slated for launch in mid-February. There is no manufacturer's suggested retail price, either.
