Thunderous applause spontaneously erupted and continued for some time.

The 150-inch PDP that Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd premiered at a keynote speech of the "2008 International CES" was revealed to great applause Jan 7. As the 150-inch PDP appeared from the back of the stage, the applause continued for so long and so loudly that Toshihiro Sakamoto, president of Panasonic AVC Networks Company, had to hold his keynote speech for a moment.

Matsushita is planning to commercialize the 150-inch PDP within fiscal 2008. Its resolution is so-called 4K x 2K and the resolution density is equivalent to that of a 75-inch full HD PDP. Expected applications are business use for digital cinemas, etc and consumer use for homes with extra-large rooms.

In the keynote speech, Matsushita also revealed its ultrathin 50-inch PDP with a thickness of less than 1 inch. The display part is only 2.47cm thick. It supports 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution. The company plans to commercialize the 50-inch PDP in 2010.

Using thin-panel TVs, Matsushita also demonstrated wireless transmission of HD images from a digital camera.
