MyVoice Communications Inc has announced results of its survey primarily on consumers' interest in purchasing a slim TV. The company conducted this survey via the Internet from Nov 1 to 5, 2007 and received responses from 19,700 people.
In 2007, the industry's first OLED TV, Sony Corp's "XEL-1," emerged on the market. Asked if you are attracted to OLED TVs, 57.5% of all respondents in this survey answered yes, including 16.4% respondents considering purchasing one.
According to the survey, respondents that already have a thin-panel TV accounted for 37%. By technology, LCD, PDP and rear projector TVs constituted 31.3, 6.4 and 0.5% of them, respectively, with LCD TVs winning majority.
Asked about future plans to purchase a slim TV, 25.8% of the respondents said they are planning to buy one within the next three years. Breakdowns were 5.1% "in about 6 months," 7.8% "in about a year" and 12.9% "in about 2 to 3 years." Respondents considering purchasing a slim TV with or without a specific schedule made up slightly less than 70% of all respondents, combined with 42.0% who answered, "I plan to purchase one someday, but the schedule is not specific yet."
Asked what kind of thin-panel TV they want, 63.1% of the respondents that were planning to purchase one chose an LCD TV, followed by a PDP TV at 29.9% and a rear projector at 2.5%. In respect to the brand (multiple answers were allowed), 52.4% cited Sharp's "AQUOS."
Ranked second was Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd's "VIERA" (32.7%), followed by Sony's "BRAVIA" (30.5%), Toshiba Corp's "REGZA" (16.8%), Hitachi Ltd's "Wooo" (14.4%), Pioneer Corp's "KURO" (5.5%) and Mitsubishi Electric Corp's "REAL" (5.4%).
