[TMS] Suzuki Exhibits Tall-type K-car w/ Power Sliding Doors on Both Sides
Suzuki Motor Corp unveiled "Palette," a K-car with sliding doors on both sides of the rear seat, at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show.
Based on the platform of Wagon R, Palette has an extended living space created by an increased overall height and a projected windshield. The development of the new car stemmed from requests by Wagon R owners for "a K-car with a roomier interior," the company said.
The car measures 3,395 (L) x 1,475 (W) x 1,735mm (H), and the wheelbase is 2,400mm long. Its overall height and wheelbase are 100mm higher and 40mm longer than those of Wagon R. The powertrain is composed of a 0.66-liter three-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
At the show, Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd exhibited remodeled Tanto, a tall-type K-car slated for launch in 2007 in Japan. In contrast to Tanto, which has sliding door only on the left side of the rear seat, Palette has motor sliding doors on both sides. While Tanto has a center pillarless design for the left doors to enhance convenience for getting in/out the car, Palette has center pillars on both side.
As with the case of Tanto, Palette is equipped with a projected windshield and subwindows in front of the A-pillars on the sides. The design can provide a better visibility and roomier interior space in the front thanks to the windshield extended forward. The vehicle is expected to be launched in early 2008 in Japan. The price has yet to be determined.
