Toshiba, "Industry's Most Eco-friendly" Toilet w/ Instantaneous Water Heater
Toshiba Consumer Marketing Corp, with headquarters in Tokyo, will release a bidet-style toilet (a toilet with a water nozzle) equipped with a newly-developed instantaneous water heater Nov 23, 2007.
The toilet does not keep warm water because it instantly warms up water every time it is used. Also, the shape of the lid was elaborated so that it prevents heat loss from the seat. As a result, the annual power consumption was reduced by about 55% compared with that of the former products.
"We have the best achievement rate, 137%, of the energy saving standard (for the 2006 fiscal year) in our industry (as of Nov 7, 2007, in the industry of bidet-style toilets with an instantaneous water heater)," the company said.
The heating unit embedded in the joint of the seat does not take much space with its small and long tubes meandering inside. And water flows through the tubes, enhancing the heat conduction efficiency.
Toshiba Consumer Marketing also developed a new lid that makes a small gap between the seat and the lid. Furthermore, a timer controlled power saving function turns off the heater for the seat in the hours when the toilet is hardly used such as in the night.
With these features, the annual power consumption of the new product was reduced to 137kWh, compared with 305kWh of the former products that keep warm water.
Silver-ion water, which is significantly antibacterial, is used to automatically wash the wash nozzle. The lid automatically opens and closes when a sensor is tripped. And it is also possible to open and close the seat by using a remote control so that users do not have to touch the seat at all.
In addition, the toilet is equipped with a variable-speed deodorizing fan motor, whose "speedy deodorizing" function blows three times as much air as normal.
The new toilet has two models, "SCS-S510" and "SCS-S500." The automatic opening and closing of the lid and seat and speedy deodorizing are only featured in "SCS-S510." Their color is pastel ivory, dimension is 429(W) × 541(D) × 144(H)mm, and weight is about 4.3kg. The monthly production goal is 4,000 units.
