Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp exhibited a hybrid truck, the Canter Eco-D, at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show as a reference presentation.
The truck is equipped with a parallel hybrid drive system and features a function to lift/lower the bed and cab with a motor. Canter Eco-D is an advanced version of Fuso Concept, which was exhibited at the Show in 2004.
Aiming to develop a dump truck designed for urban use, the company reportedly reduced the noise and vibration generated when lifting and lowering the bed, as well as the exhaust gas and CO2 emissions during driving and operation.
The vehicle body measures 5,800 (L) x 2,000 (W) x 2,500 (H)mm, and the wheelbase is 3,350mm long. The maximum load capacity is 3,000kg. There is a switch for lifting and lowering the bed and cab on both sides of the vehicle exterior.
The bed can be operated from either inside or outside of the vehicle, but the switch to move the cab is provided outside only. When lifting the cab, the bumper is projected first and then the cab is tilted.
The truck has two front pillars. The driver can see outside through the space between these pillars, thereby improving the visibility. In addition, a transparent material is used for the roof. The truck employs LEDs for lighting including headlights, blinkers and taillights.
The side doors are hinged on the side closer to the rear body and can be opened from the front. To enhance maneuverability, various operation switches are located around the steering wheel.
