[FPD International] LG.Philips LCD Exhibits LCD Panel w/ 5000:1 Contrast Ratio for Instrument Panels

LG.Philips LCD Co Ltd of Korea exhibits a 10.1-inch LCD panel that has a high contrast ratio of 5000:1 for automobile instrument panels at FPD International 2007.

Its shape can be adjusted to fit the instrument panel and gate driver ICs are integrated to improve package density.

"A higher contrast ratio is required for better visibility of information that needs to be checked while driving," LG.Philips LCD said.

The company improved the contrast ratio by modulation control of the white LED backlight in response to the displayed data. In addition, the gate driver ICs are integrated by adopting low-temperature polycrystalline Si process.

The outer dimension of the exhibited prototype is 106.0 × 250.6mm. The top of the panel is rounded to fit the shape of the interior panel. It has a resolution of 1200 × 480, while the resolution density is 128dpi.

The luminance is 500cd/m2. It adopts the IPS display mode. The contrast ratio of 10:1 or higher is attained in view angles of 176° vertically and horizontally.
