Revenues of flat panel display (FPD) increased 15% quarter-on-quarter (Q/Q) in the second quarter of 2007, and up 16% year-on-year (Y/Y), according to a report by DisplaySearch.
TFT LCD technologies generated 90.1% of this revenue, with sales rising 18% Q/Q and 24% Y/Y to US$21.8 billion. PDP technology contributed 4.8% of FPD sales, but PDP revenue fell 14% Q/Q and 36% Y/Y to US$1.2 billion for the quarter. OLED technologies generated 0.5% of FPD sales with revenue growth of 13% Y/Y to US$0.1 billion.
DisplaySearch expects OLED revenues will exceed US$0.7 billion in 2007, and will more than double to US$1.7 billion in 2008. The report predicts that PDP sales will stay flat from 2007 to 2008 as price decreases offset shipment increases. DisplaySearch forecasts TFT LCD revenues will rise 14% from US$90.7 billion in 2007 to US$103.9 billion in 2008, putting TFT LCD over the US$100 billion mark for the first time. The report indicates total FPD sales will grow 12% from US$90.9 billion in 2006 to US$101.9 billion in 2007 and then grow 13% more to US$115.4 billion in 2008. In contrast, the report shows sales of CRT technologies will fall 32% from US$7.5 billion in 2006 to US$5.1 billion in 2007, and then fall another 21% to US$4.0 billion in 2008 as displays go from fat to flat.
