[CEATEC Preview] NTT DoCoMo, Fujitsu Prototype Super 3G Base Station, Maximum Download at 900Mbps
NTT DoCoMo Inc. and Fujitsu Ltd. have prototyped a mobile phone base station that supports the "Super 3G" next-generation mobile phone specification being promoted by NTT DoCoMo and some other firms.
The base station marked a download rate as high as 900 Mbps. The two companies plan to showcase this prototype at "CEATEC Japan 2007" scheduled for Oct. 2 to 6, 2007.
Since choosing manufacturers to develop Super 3G commercial devices in November 2006, NTT DoCoMo has advanced joint developments with Fujitsu and the other chosen companies.
The prototyped base station can realize downloading at 900 Mbps (20 MHz band, 3 sectors) when sending data using MIMO transmission from the base station to the mobile station respectively equipped with four antennas. DoCoMo and Fujitsu intend to further test this prototype and reduce both size and power.
Super 3G is a technology being formulated as "LTE" in the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project). Its fundamental technologies are OFDM and OFDMA.
