Fujitsu Component Ltd. and Wacom Co. Ltd. have developed a system that enables the remote operation of PCs, servers and workstations using Wacom's LCD pen tablet at a distance of up to 300 m via Fujitsu Component's "Cat5 Extender" remote operation unit. Its market debut is slated for late September 2007. Pricing starts at 200,000 yen.
Generally speaking, a longer cable results in lower image quality when connecting a display to a computer. The results are the same when connecting a pen tablet, a keyboard and a mouse, for example, to a computer.
Meanwhile, the new system inserts a transmitter unit and a receiver unit of the "Cat5 Extender (high resolution monitor console extension and remote operation unit)" between an LCD pen tablet and a computer, and connects them with the "Cat5E UTP" multipurpose cable. This solution makes it possible to control applications and enter handwritten data even if the distance between the LCD pen tablet and the computer is extended to 300 m.
This system allows remote operation of a main computer located in the office using an LCD pen tablet in a factory, for example. Other expected effects include the prevention of information leak through integrated management of a main computer placed away from operators and the efficient distribution of workspace by collecting and managing main computers in a room.
