Nintendo Co. Ltd. has announced "Wii Fit," a game focused on fitness, at the "E3 Media & Business Summit" in Santa Monica, Calif., which was held from July 11 to 13, 2007.
The game software includes a dedicated "Balance Board" controller, on which users ride when playing.
When announcing the Wii Fit at a press conference, Nintendo's Senior Managing Director Shigeru Miyamoto said, "Wii is at the center of many living rooms. When I considered how we could use Wii as something to facilitate family communication focusing on fitness, it was something that I couldn't ignore."
The Balance Board is a controller that senses the weight on the board and weighted points and transmit them to the Wii from its wireless interface.
"It is not only the Wii Fit controller but also a new user interface that transmits full-body exercise to the Wii," Miyamoto said.
Wii Fit offers stretching, exercises, games and some other menu items. At E3, Nintendo also presented the new "Zapper" (tentative name), which can be used as a shooting controller with two kinds of Wii controllers attached to it.
