On June 8, 2007, Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc. (Sony CSL) showcased a system that can automatically create manga based on blogs and other texts at its "Sony CSL Open House 2007." The system estimates the writer's emotions and makes up several pages of multiple-frame manga based on facial expressions written with symbols, the frequency of "!" and "?" appearances and pre-registered keywords. The frame is formed at every linefeed mark with the text in the relevant range packed in a speech bubble. The system uses facial portraits and other graphical items registered in advance as illustrations.
It is available to revise and change the kind and form of the facial portraits in the developed manga using a dedicated tool. In light of photos and texts stored up on blog and other websites, "We wanted to create a system that remakes them into more emotional, easier versions," a company spokesperson said.
