Bridgestone Corp. has developed QR-LPD, an A4 size color electronic paper featuring a luminance twice as high as that of the company's existing prototype and exhibited the latest prototype display units equipped with this e-paper at SID 2007. The product uses the company's proprietary Electronic Liquid Powder. Although the existing prototype utilizes the color filters designed for LCD panels, the latest model employs the color filter developed exclusively for e-paper. The adoption of the dedicated filters reportedly enabled the company to double the luminance while maintaining the color purity. In addition to the new filters, the company has revised the pixel design, drive method and other features.

Moreover, Bridgestone intends to expand its product lines and reinforce the supply system in order to start full-fledged e-paper business. To satisfy diversified needs, the company has prepared four types of monochrome models with sizes including A7, A5, A4 and A3 for evaluation. Three models with sizes of A7, A5, and A4 are on display at the SID exhibition.

Bridgestone also developed another e-paper that is flexible even in the chip section by grinding the driver IC to as thin as 35 mum and unveiled it at the SID event for the first time. It is to be noted that the technical content was introduced at the SID symposium held on May 24, US time (Paper No. 45.1).
