Displaybank Co., Ltd. of Korea has announced forecasts for the flexible display market from 2007 to 2017. At the beginning, with electronic paper applications increasing, the market will grow to $280 million (USD) in 2010. Then the market will further expand to $5.9 billion in 2015 and $12.2 billion in 2017 with flexible displays using organic EL and LCD panels emerging, Displaybank predicts.
Displaybank estimates flexible displays seen on the market through 2008 will be 7-inch and smaller electronic paper devices, which are mostly applied to e-books. The company anticipates 3-inch and smaller flexible displays using organic EL and LCD panels to be equipped with high-end mobile phones in around 2011. Flexible displays on the market will grow larger after that and 50-inch and larger e-paper devices will be available in around 2013, according to Displaybank. As for those using organic EL and LCD panels, 10-inch and larger models will emerge and be adopted to TVs, monitors and notebook PCs, among other applications, in 2016 or so, Displaybank forecasts.
