Taiwanese ASUSTeK Launches 4 Models Including Laptop Equipped with Windows SideShow

On March 9, 2007, ASUSTek Computer Inc. of Taiwan announced four new product models including "ASUS W5Fe" equipped with Windows SideShow. Windows Vista SideShow technology enables a laptop computer to display diverse information even when it is closed. It may be described as something like an auxiliary display of mobile phones. This is the world's first laptop computer that ever supports Windows SideShow, the company claims.

A program that lets Windows SideShow provide information is called "SideShow Gadget". The company said that a variety of gadgets such as to check the status of email software to monitor incoming e-mails and schedule, for example, will be prepared. SideShow Gadgets will be distributed through Windows Live Gallery. Also, the gadgets on external websites such as users' private or other websites open to public can be added in. The ASUS W5Fe features a 1.66 GHz Core2 Duo T5500 microprocessor. Its main memory is 1 GB, while the HDD is 80 GB. It mounts a 12.1-inch, 1280 x 768 WXGA resolution display, runs 1.5 hours using a 3-cell battery pack and weighs 1.7 kg.
