NTT DoCoMo, Inc. will shortly start "DCMX," a credit payment service for its "Osaifu-Keitai (wallet-mobile phone)" compatible handset users. DCMX supports the company's "iD" credit service brand started in December 2005. The handset users can do credit shopping without signature, just by holding the handset over dedicated readers at stores showing the "iD" logo sticker. Like standard credit cards, this is an after payment service that requires no cash pre-charge.

The service consists of "DCMX mini" and "DCMX." DCMX mini allows credit payment of up to ¥10,000 per month, with the credit payment billed with the mobile phone service fee. This service is only for the payment using the handset and needs no fee for subscription or annual membership. The service will start on April 28, 2006.

The other DCMX allows credit payment of more than ¥200,000 per month and issues a credit card from VISA or MasterCard. Along with the payment using the handset, standard credit payment using the card is also available. Users can pay less than ¥10,000 only by holding the handset over the reader, but have to input their code numbers when purchasing more than ¥10,000. Service points generated in line with the amount of payment will be saved as "DoCoMo Point," which can be used to purchase a handset, for example. The company plans to start receiving the service subscription in late May 2006.

NTT DoCoMo indicates the easy subscription as one of DCMX's superiority to standard credit cards. DCMX, for example, allows users to start the credit payment only by accessing the DCMX i-mode website, inputting their code numbers and downloading the dedicated application. The company plans to introduce the DCMX application to its new mobile phone handsets to be released in the future as standard.

At the press conference, Takeshi Natsuno, Executive Director, NTT DoCoMo, said, "I have always had this service in mind since I joined DoCoMo. It may be no exaggeration to say that I joined DoCoMo to do this. Even i-mode and Osaifu-Keitai capabilities could be regarded as only preparation for this service," emphasizing the company's focus on the service.
