Total Capacity of Wind Power Plants Exceeds 3GW in Japan

New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) announced the total capacity of wind power plants in Japan Aug 18, 2016.

According to NEDO, about 0.18GW of wind power plants (86 plants) were newly installed in Japan in fiscal 2015. As of the end of the fiscal year, there were 2,102 wind power plants (total capacity: about 3.1GW) in Japan. This is the first time that the total capacity has exceeded 3GW.

Of the 2,102 plants, 1,469 plants (69.9%) were manufactured by non-Japanese companies. The ratio of foreign manufacturers has been gradually increasing.
