Mega Solar Plant in Hokkaido Leverages Local Experience, Knowledge

Tokachi in Hokkaido is known as a leading agricultural and pastoral region in Japan. The "TY Tokachi Shimizu Solar Power Plant," a mega- (large-scale) solar power plant with an output of about 1.39MW, is located in Shimizucho in this region (Fig. 1).

Vast fields of corn and other crops as well as cattle and goat ranches spread around the power plant as if in the US or Australia (Fig. 2). Large-scale farming and cattle production has developed there, making the best use of the fertile and flat land.
