The open platform employed for this telematics portal service business comprises a data center housing various contents and an in-vehicle server, which will be loaded with KDDI's cdma2000 1x communication module. An interface is provided with car navigation, car audio and other in-vehicle equipment, so telematics services can be provided in a connectible, user-oriented vehicle environment, regardless of the terminal maker. Thus, a broad range of services devoted to the user's tastes and needs can be flexibly accommodated.
Omron's experience in sensors and sensor development -- particularly with the M2M (machine-to-machine) Center, as well as its know-how in such technologies as voice recognition -- will be combined with Mobilecast's contents distribution service-related knowledge.
Omron will offer services in safety and security, as well as sensor/voice recognition/M2M Center/hands-free terminal/M2M technologies and established business channels. Mobilecast will provide entertainment-type contents distribution services and portal site management.
The first stage of the alliance will see the joint development of an in-vehicle server, with a car audio system-interfaced voice controlled telematics service (on-demand radio) to be launched in spring 2003. Also, using KDDI's next-generation 2.4Mbps Cdma2000 1x EV-DO communication infrastructure, and in-vehicle displays for use with streaming distribution of short films, commercials, etc, connection will be possible between the vehicle and the home, enabling mobile broadband services handling large volumes of data, such as pictures and audio.
