Previously, a large capacitance capacitor was used for the application, but it continued to charge circuits during only one or two hours. To lengthen the operating time, a coin battery with a plastic socket was also used for the application, but the coin had to be used by hand operation, leading to slow production speed.
Sanyo's coin batteries are supplied in a form of tape reel which can be processed as other tape components, leading to quick production. To endure the reflow temperature of 240Centigrade, the company developed new materials for a separator, electrolyte and gasket in the battery. Anode and cathode electrodes are lithium-aluminum and manganeze dioxide, respectively, as previously.
