Last month, Acer appointed a local director for Acer Vietnam Co Ltd, as a start of the expansion of its business and services in Vietnam as well as in Cambodia and Laos. Dao An Khanh, the newly-appointed director, has pledged to continue Acer's business strategy in Vietnam by setting up a production base in Vietnam .
Dao did not unveil details of this project, but local analysts familiar with the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) said it is estimated to be worth up to US$10 million at the initial phase and its construction may begin as early as next year.
An official at MPI said, "We are ready to have all priorities for Acer to establish such an assembly line in the country." He also said that the next project would be best housed at the Hi-tech Park, Hoa Lac, 30 kilometers east of Hanoi. However, a source from the Ho Chi Minh city office of Acer said the Tan Thuan EPZ (export processing zone), five kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City may also be a good location for a future plant.
